Travels with Phil 10 – The Frank Gehry Building in Las Vegas

Almost every city, no matter how philistine, has something to commend it. An organization I was associated with decided to have an organization meeting, more than once, at Caesar’s Palace. I would not have gone except, never having been in Nevada, renting a car enabled me to visit Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam and its Railroad Tunnels, the Valley of Fire State Park and The Red Rock Canyon. All of which were amazing to an over-soaked, flatland Floridian like me.

My interest in architecture derives from my having discovered the work of my future intellectual mentor, Lewis Mumford, while teaching my Man and His Environment course in 1970 at the Miami Dade Community College.

I do not know how I discovered Frank Gehry had designed a building in Las Vegas. It was at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. It was two $30 taxi rides, and worth it.

Good Fortune Follows Me! We are taking pictures of the outside. The building is metal. Do NOT touch it. Hot (as I found out!). A security guard came by and started talking about the building. Clearly proud of it. And THEN asks if we would like to go inside? Would we? Oh, my, just look at these pictures!

Go see it!
