Travels with Phil Seven– Sarge’s Deli – New York City

In midtown on Third Avenue not far below 42nd Street is Sarge’s Deli. There are many more famous names in NYC restaurants, but NONE are a more classic NY deli nor BETTER than Sarge’s. They even have whole boiled cow tongues in their deli cases. What more could you ask for? Go there!

Sarge’s Deli, NYC

A tongue sandwich joke: These two rubes from middle America are in New York City for the first time in their lives and were told they HAD to eat at a New York deli. They chose Sarge’s of course. The more adventurous of the two sees a tongue on rye sandwich. The waitress asks what he wants?

“I’ll try the tongue on rye!”

His friend says:

“I cannot believe that you would eat something that came out of an animal’s mouth!”

The waitress “Yeah, wise guy! What do you want?”

“I’ll have an egg salad sandwich.”
