I said it would be a bit before I wrote another post. But three weeks ago I saved the article linked here from the New York Times, that the Monarch had been added to the Endangered Species list. You will be shocked and disturbed (I hope) to read the decline in the population of the butterfly.

Monarchs are one of the coolest things I remember about being a kid! A few years ago my daughters took me to see the Monarch migration in this park. We hardly saw any, not the clouds of butterflies that the park had been noted for. Now I know why.

So today I went to the nursery and bought these four milkweed plants for less than $30. And I am writing this post in the hope that I can influence even one other person to do the same. I’ll write another post in time about letting the weeds grow in your yard to feed the wild and domestic honeybees and wasps that pollinate our crops.
