My readers should know by now that I was an anthropologist. I think I enjoyed Linguistics more than anything in that field of study. I was also a student of Russian back then, and recently made the acquaintance of a new friend born in Moscow. It has set me on the path of recovering my Russian fluency. Russian is difficult for the English speaking mouth to pronounce. They will have three consonants together making a new phoneme! I drove my Russian professors crazy because there was no way they could get me to pronounce the Yery. I felt like I had to curl my tongue while swallowing it!

But NOTHING in linguistics rivals the pronunciation rules of English. Take the silent K for example:

                        There is one silent K in                    Knight

                        There are four silent K’s in             Knick Knack

                       And three silent Ks in

                                                            REPUBLICAN!
