Central City

Among other disciplines, I studied Botany. I have taught courses on Edible Wild Plants and Field Botanical Taxonomy, or how to use botanical keys to identify plants. The North Florida panhandle is the only place in the United Sates that has ALL genera of carnivorous plants. My favorite place to see them and other native wild plants and wildflowers is State Road 65 in the Apalachicola National Forest. It runs from Hosford on the North on State Road 20 down through Sumatra on to the Gulf Coast and US 98 near Carabelle. There is one unique bog I take trusted folks to see. I am cautious to protect the location from poaching by collectors. It has ALL the genera in one bog!

Guess what is on the road in the middle of nowhere? Yep, a city…NOT! Search for it on your map program. It comes UP! The State Department of Transportation maintains it. For whom? Why? Hell if I know.

Central City… huh?
